What is eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)?

Hello!

We’ve all heard of Rapid Eye Movement (REM). Neuroscientists have found that these movements are what help us make sense of our experiences. They provide the “raw material” of dreams, helping us give meaning to experiences we’ve had during the day.

With trauma, this process is disrupted. Our memories are fragmentary or repressed completely, which makes the task of giving meaning to them difficult or almost impossible. EMDR is a protocol designed to bring meaning to traumatic situations or events. All trauma, whether acute, chronic, or complex, can respond to EMDR.
